RULES AND REQUIREMENTS

The general rulebook for NHD projects, as well as important dates, FAQ's, and tips for students and teachers.

The following written documents are necessary for a complete NHD project:

Annotated Bibliography

A document citing and annotating all of the sources you used to create your project.

Process Paper

A document containing a summary of the work you did to create your project.

Title Page

A document title for your project.

           

Contest Rule Book

Overview of the full NHD Contest Rule Book:

  • Students research a historical topic relating to an annual theme, then create a project in one of 6 categories to portray their historical evidence and analysis.

  • This years theme is Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History.

  • NHD-CA Contests divide students into 3 groups - Elementary, Junior, and Senior Divisions.

  • Elementary Division spans from grades 4-5, Junior Division spans from grades 6-8, and Senior Division spans from grades 9-12.

  • Contest categories include Historical Papers, Documentaries, Exhibits, Podcasts, Performances, and Websites. All 6 categories allow individual or group participation, EXCEPT Historical Paper projects, which can only include individual participation.

  • There are 3 levels of competition - County, State, and National competitions.

  • NHD provides students with historical knowledge, as well as the life-skills needed to create their projects.

  • At all levels of competition, students are given the opportunity to receive rewards through recognization of outstanding achievement.
